Meet Cindy Da Ponte who's story begins with roots on the picturesque island of São Miguel in the Azores, where her immigrant parents laid the foundation for a life that would become a tapestry of cultural richness. As a proud Luso-Canadian, Cindy carries the spirit of her heritage with grace and enthusiasm. An entrepreneur at heart, Cindy has carved a niche for herself as a dedicated business owner. Specializing in both Photography with her venture E-motions Photography and Promotional Marketing, she has become a recognized Branding Specialist under the banner of Spot-On Designs. Her artistic eye and business acumen have turned moments into memories and ideas into impactful brands. Prior to her entrepreneurial ventures, Cindy honed her skills in the banking industry for over two decades. This professional journey equipped her with the financial acuity that now defines her role as the Treasurer on the Board of Portugalo-Portuguese Heritage Inc. She is a familiar face at numerous cultural events, wielding her camera to capture the essence of the Portuguese community. Through her lens, she not only freezes smiles in time but also actively contributes to the collective memory of those who attend these events.
Intricately blending her Azorean roots with the vibrant threads of Canadian experiences, Eddie Suliman, born on the enchanting island of Pico in the Azores, embarked on a journey with her parents in 1972 which led her to where she stands today. Infused with Portuguese values and traditions her heart beats in harmony with the soul of her ancestral heritage. For the past 14 years, Eddie has been the creative force behind her own Event Planning company Eddie Suliman Events, transforming ideas into immersive and memorable experiences. Her dedication to excellence doesn't stop there; Eddie generously donates her time and expertise to numerous not-for-profit organizations and charities. It's a reflection of her belief in the power of community and the responsibility to give back. Eddie's journey with community leadership began as a Director on the Federation of Portuguese-Canadian Business and Professionals Board. Her involvement in the not-for-profit secture expanded further when she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Portugalo-Portuguese Heritage Inc. Board, where she assumed the Vice President seat in 2021. Eddie finds joy in her favorite pastime activities such as traveling to explore new horizons and allowing the haunting melodies of Fado music to touch her soul. Her true haven however, lies in the warmth of her family while making cherished memories.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Leiria, Portugal in a colourful and dynamic village with multiple traditions which consisted of soccer, carnival and religious festivals Isabel Alves immigrated to Canada to expand her extensive skills. From an early age Isabel volunteered and participated in community events and youth groups. Isabel holds a degree in Education, Communication and Multimedia. She has been lucky to have diverse work experience in Education, Marketing and Sales. Her desire for adventure and new challenges is what brought her to Canada. Her passion for Portugal led her to work in the Portuguese Media for a number of years. Most recently she oversees the day-to-day operations of several companies in the health care and share work space industry. In her spare time Isabel enjoys cooking, having fun with friends, reading and watching comedies. As personal therapy she enjoys teaching Portuguese as a second language. In 2022 Isabel was lucky to have been selected to volunteer at the inaugural Portugalo Fest. After a great day of hard work and fun with an amazing team she was not able to deny the invitation to be a Director on the Board of Portugalo - Portuguese Heritage Inc.
Beyond being raised in Mississauga where his roots originated, Cliff Silveira's roots also run deep from both the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores where his parents immigrated to Canada from. Having lived, worked, and played in Mississauga for most of his life, Cliff has cultivated a profound connection to its people and places. In 2001, Cliff took a significant step towards giving back to the community that had given him so much. He founded the Mississauga Convention Centre Foundation, a testament to his dedication to enhancing the cultural and social fabric of the region. But Cliff's involvement goes beyond bricks and mortar. For a decade, from 2002 to 2012, he served as the chair of the Kathy A. Drury Rainbow Ball, steering the event with grace and ensuring its success as a cherished community celebration. As a member of the Portugalo-Portuguese Heritage Inc. Board, he takes on the responsibility of preserving and promoting the rich tapestry of Portuguese culture. For Cliff, it's not just a duty; it's a passion to keep the flame of Portuguese tradition burning brightly in the hearts of the community he holds dear.
Born amidst the vibrant pulse of New York, Eduarda Lee Sousa-Lall is a force of nature, embodying a legacy that beautifully entwines Portuguese and Italian heritage. Her captivating journey is marked by gratitude, faith, and a spirit that propels her to embrace life with the mantra of "JUST DO IT!" Beyond her daring feats such as completing the CN Tower Edge Walk, Eduarda is a passionate advocate and mentor for women affected by human trafficking. As the Outreach Coordinator of STEPPING OUT and a graduate of the World Vision L.E.A.P. Program. For Eduarda, the values of faith, hope, courage, and perseverance are not just words; they are guiding principles that shape her advocacy. As an entrepreneur with Promptings/SendOutCards, and a Sales Associate at Holt Renfrew, she seamlessly blends her professional prowess with her compassionate heart. Eduarda's commitment to community leadership is evident in her role as a Current Trustee and Former President of the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business and Professionals. Alongside her husband Larry and their sons, Chayodom and Natanael, natives of Thailand, she brings a zest for life to every endeavor.
In the realm of entertainment production, where creativity and passion collide, Jose Gouveia has carved out a remarkable legacy spanning over three decades. Born and raised in the picturesque landscapes of Madeira, Portugal, Jose embarked in November of 1975 on an extraordinary journey that transcended borders and left an indelible mark on the global stage. Fueled by dreams and aspirations, Jose's family made the courageous decision to immigrate, leaving behind the cobblestone streets of Madeira for new opportunities on foreign shores. Little did they know that this bold move would set the stage for an illustrious career in the entertainment industry. Beyond the allure of the spotlight, Jose found purpose in philanthropy. A champion for noble causes, he lent his time and expertise to the boards of charitable organizations dedicated to battling cancer and AIDS. Jose's commitment to making a positive impact extended beyond the realm of entertainment, reflecting a deep-seated belief in the power of giving back.
Luso-Canadian Tony Camara who's roots originate from the beautiful island of São Miguel in the Azores is not an individual to rest on past accomplishments, he continues advancing a successful music career across Canada, America and internationally. Tony Câmara is a TV personality and gifted stage perfomer. As a performer, he entertains both as a solo artist and with his band "Os Sonhos" delivering musica popular music. Tony and the band established name recognition with more mainstream audiences and have been in demand since appearing in the finest venues and festivals. Beyond his time on stage, Tony is also an Advisor of Strategic Planning and Administration at Region of Peel, he is responsible for ensuring the successful achievement of departmental initiatives and action plans. Tony holds over 4 years of experience in this role, and over 17 years of experience as a Production Stage Manager in the independent sector.
